We have several exciting announcements this quarter. We are privileged to welcome Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse to Walnut Grove on October 6th to speak about her book: Love & Economics: It takes a family to raise a village. Dr. Morse has become a national figure in support of traditional marriage and families and
will explain to us how strong families are directly related to a strong economy. Also, the 3rd Tuesday Evening Recollection will be replaced by two new Recollections: 3rd Tuesday
Mornings and 4th Monday Evenings. Please see the announcement on page 2 for more information. Lastly, we have set the date for our Christmas Party which will be on Sunday, December 16th at 2pm. Please mark your calendars. Please pray for all of the events going on at home and abroad that are listed in this newsletter. You are our source of spiritual and material energy. We can not move forward without you!
Thank you for all of your efforts!
1st Annual Grandparents' Day- A big hit!
The Walnut Grove Cultural Center hosted its first Annual Grandparents Day this past September 8th. It was a fun-filled afternoon where grandparents and friends enjoyed a lively performance from the girls who attended summer camp, a reflection with the priest, surprise raffle prizes and delicious food.
Thank you grandparents for celebrating with us! Save the date Sept 7, 2013 for our next Grandparents Day! See you again next year.
SteppingUP for 8th, 9th, and 10th graders
Something new is coming to Walnut Grove Cultural Center this Fall! WGCC offers a variety of intellectual and cultural programs that help women strengthen their character, friendships and be a positive influence in their work. In the Stepping UP Leadership Program, young women will gain the confidence and skills they need to discover a sense of purpose, to aspire to their personal best and to make positive contributions in each area of their lives.
This program will inspire participants to make positive, active choices that will enable them to
become leaders as a professional, mother and member of their community.
Stepping UP will offer interactive seminars on character, leadership, academics, discussion
forums, hands-on activities and service opportunities. Each participant will have the chance to meet regularly with a mentor to guide her in applying the principles covered in each session through realistic and practical goals.
A course curriculum is available online at www.walnutgrovecenter.org. For more information, visit the above website or contact Monica Mehan at 310-208-5797. [Note new information here]
