It was so good to see so many of you at the
Mass of St. Josemaria in Los Angeles!
Through his inspiration, since our last newsletter Walnut Grove has been very busy educating and forming women and girls. In April we had the 2nd Part of our Living Essentials Series: A Bright and Peaceful Home. It was an all-day workshop, with a great turn-out, and lots of interesting tips and tricks. Who knew learning how to clean our homes could be so much fun?! In May, Stepping Up, our High School leadership program wrapped up its 2013-14 session. We continued our Faith & Reason Lecture Series on The Ten Commandments and What Catholics Believe. We also hosted a new Girls Club for 5-7 year olds, The Little Flowers. They learned about cheerfulness and made Father's Day Cards. Please continue to pray for the fruits of all of these efforts!
Thank you for your continued support of our Bookstore. We are in the process of placing an order so that new titles will be available by the start of the school year. If you have any special requests, please email our bookstore manager: Kathryn Carey firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, if anyone is interested in selling copies of the writings of St. Josemaria at your parish, please let us know. We are very excited about spreading good reading material to many more people.
Lastly, please take a look at the information for the Fashion E-Camp, and also note the date for our annual Grandmother's Day event sponsored by our Girls Clubs is Saturday October 18th. Please start spreading the word, and we look forward to seeing you there! ~~Lauren
Living Essentials: A Bright and Peaceful Home
In April Walnut Grove Cultural Center presented our second Living Essentials Workshop: A Bright and Peaceful Home. The day was filled with practical tips and suggestions of how to create a pleasant household environment through the acts of service that take place in the home to care for others in daily household chores, sewing, and financial budgeting.
Dora Oliaz gave an engaging and practical talk on the importance of caring for the home and ideas of chore distribution among family members of all ages.
Aida Domingo enlightened us with many tips and tricks for all things related to laundry. She also demonstrated an amazing way to fold fitted sheets to look neat and tidy!
Lucia Reyes shared her expertise in household cleaning, and we learned the many ways we can utilize vinegar to clean our homes. Lucia also taught a hands-on class on basic sewing techniques of hand stitches for mending and sewing buttons.
We concluded our workshop with an informative talk by Rebecca Chan on creating a household budget through setting goals, knowing your net income, and tracking your spending.
It was a wonderful workshop filled with much joy and excitement to learn so many meaningful ways to make our homes bright and peaceful!
Yard Sale Report
Our yard sale held May 3rd was a big success, and a lot of fun! Due to this “success”, we took a bold step to have another yard sale the following Saturday, May 10th, because we had a lot of
leftover stuff and extremely motivated volunteers! We raised $1,577.25 to benefit Walnut Grove’s maintenance fund. A big THANK YOU to all!! ~~Lydia & Erin
