On March 16, 2014, Family Enrichment

concluded its six-month course on

Matrimonial Love. The course covered the concepts of conjugal love, the matrimonial contract, matrimonial communication and balancing of professional work and family life. Moderators from across the country came to guide the case discussions.

Congratulations to the 36 couples who formally graduated, having gained not only new skills but also new friendships through their course participation. The participating couples came from all over the Southland, including San Bernardino, Orange and Ventura Counties.

With increasing interest in Family Enrichment, FE will offer a course on Pre-Adolescence this September and will be made available in both Los Angeles and Orange Counties. This

course is geared toward parents with children ages 10-13. To learn more about the Family Enrichment program or to enroll in the upcoming courses, please view the website:

Living Essentials: The Well-Stocked and Well-Organized Kitchen

In February, Walnut Grove Cultural Center proudly presented Living Essentials: The Well-Stocked and Well-Organized Kitchen, the first in a series of three seminars. Nearly 40 women enjoyed the wisdom of three amazing speakers, who discussed ways to simplify tasks involved in caring for our families and homes.

Lauren Ellis gave an informative introductory talk to our Living Essentials series. She stated the value of the work of the home in caring for the beauty and dignity of the human person.

Isabel Escudero discussed the importance of having a well-stocked pantry, the organization of the kitchen space, and effective tools and equipment to be used in one’s kitchen. She shared many personal stories of her experiences in the kitchen, and she showed us some of her essential cooking utensils that she uses; some of her cooking tools were given to her at her bridal shower nearly 50 years ago!

Maca Martinez is an accomplished chef; she works in the food industry, does consulting work with restaurants, and writes a food blog. We were all so impressed with her culinary skills and expertise, as she shared insights about meal planning and nutrition while demonstrating a recipe using left-overs, and she prepared four quick meals that could be created with everyday items found in our well-stocked pantry and kitchen.

For lunch, we enjoyed the absolutely delicious meals that Maca demonstrated for us! It was such a treat to eat her Mexican lasagna, kale salad with barbecue dressing, black beans and

peach yogurt gelatin for dessert. It was a perfect way to spend time talking with friends over a delightful lunch.

We left the workshop filled with many tips and insights of how to make our kitchens a place of order, creativity and filled with love!
