Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! We hope this newsletter finds you off to a good start in 2013! As you are making your New Year's resolutions, please include upcoming Walnut Grove events on your calendar. Our first workshop, A New Look at Art, will be on Saturday, February 2nd at 2PM. Living in the entertainment capital of the world, we are constantly  bombarded by an industry which many times promotes violence, sarcasm, and gross distortions as artistic self-expression. These images seep into our lives every day, and it is important to combat them by having the training to stay sensitive to what is true, good and beautiful. During the Year of Faith, we want to show how art is an expression of the innate call to truth and beauty with which God enriches every human life; and our responsibility to spread truth and beauty in everyday life. We hope to see you there! Also, please note the changes to the schedule for Days and Evenings of Recollection beginning this month.

See you at Walnut Grove soon!

Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse of the Ruth Institute was keynote speaker at the cooperators workshop held on Oct 6, 2012.  She explained the importance of raising children with solid foundation in virtue, and how this in turn serves as a stimulus to the economy.  Every new child is a stimulus package!

After the successful launching of this Leadership Program for high school girls last Fall, we now have about 20 participants.  Topics discussed in the three sessions held so far include:  “Knowing your temperament” and “Tips on good discussion-making,” by an invited speaker, Dr. Elizabeth Komives. Program Director, Monica Mehan hopes to offer more interactive seminars on character, academics, leadership, and service opportunities to the high schoolers.
